Management of the International Supply Chain PG (TBA) 3CP

Course Description

The unit focuses on current and emerging issues concerning security of the supply chain and ‘authorized trader’ programs that have been legislated for in many countries including the EU, United States, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia.  The unit will provide a comprehensive introduction to international supply chain concepts and best practice approaches to the management of supply chain issues including regulatory compliance and security. The unit includes an examination of:

 

·         key supply chain concepts and management practices and how they have evolved

·         the way in which security of the international supply chain is sought to be regulated with an emphasis on the WCO’s recent Framework of Standards and the WTO’s work on trade facilitation

·         the impact of national and international regulation on supply chain efficiency

·         Approaches to regulatory compliance as it impacts on the operation of international supply chains with particular focus on the range of US initiatives and the  new EU laws for ‘authorised economic operators’ and other country initiatives.

 

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to explain the key concepts of international supply chain management, apply their knowledge of best practice management approaches to an international supply chain, explain and  apply the principles contained in the WCO’s Framework of Standards, explain the issues relevant to international regulation of the supply chain, particularly the new security initiatives  and be capable of developing and implementing a variety of compliance approaches to the regulatory requirements.
