Course DescriptionThis unit introduces students to the principles and concepts of intellectual property law, including copyright, trademark, and patent law, with particular emphasis on the way in which intellectual property rights are regulated in the international trading environment. It also introduces students to the application of international agreements on intellectual property across a range of jurisdictions and in relation to specific issues. A detailed analysis of the key international agreements on intellectual property is undertaken, including TRIPS, the Berne Convention and Paris Convention. The unit includes a comparative discussion on the way in which particular treaties have been implemented in Australia and other countries.
Students in this unit will be able to identify the sources of international intellectual property law, and apply the principles of international regulation of intellectual property law to their own country's environment.
